The first half of my week was set up to look like the following:
Monday: 30 minute cross training
Tuesday: 2 mile run
Wednesday: 40 minute cross training
Thursday: Rest Day

So far, I have kept up with the training, except for the rest day. I spent almost two hours outside shoveling the snow, I think that could be counted as cross training if you ask me. Why did it take two hours? Because it was still snowing. There was already about three-four inches on the ground and by the time I was done with the driveway and sidewalk, I had to do the stupid driveway AGAIN!!! So much for resting.

The hard part will be to stick with the schedule for the next three days. I will hopefully have a positive update next time I check in.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-79298895381903496822011-01-17T16:43:00.000-08:002011-01-17T17:09:37.616-08:00AccountabilityI think my plans for this blog last year did not nearly last as long as I would have liked them to last, but it is now 2011 and I am ready to try again. I am also in the planning stages of my race schedule for the year. What does accountability have to do with either of these things? Well, my friend Jessica is going to hold me accountable for keeping up with this blog and for my training. Why does this need to happen? Because I have totally lost my motivation for training. After last year it is going to take a lot for me to mentally and physically get back into training mode. What happened last year? Oh yeah, I forgot I didn't keep you all updated. Um... Where should I begin? OK, first of all, we moved across the country. Secondly, we stayed in a hotel for two months. Thirdly, we didn't have our household goods for almost five months (which meant no bike). Fourth, I was afraid to push my shoulder after surgery back to triathlon mode. So now that you have the cliff note version, it should be easy to understand why I need someone to help keep me on track.

My goals for this year:
1) Get back to doing triathlons (at least one) but hoping to finally accomplish my goal from two years ago to doing an Olympic Distance triathlon.
2) Doing another half marathon ( I completed my first in June of last year, yes it was the only thing done in 2010.) This time I would actually like to run the whole thing.
3) Joining the Hermes Road Race Series, which consists of running in a minimum of 7 races throughout the entire year. Joining is the easy part, completing the 7 races is another story altogether. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-63299078789327242962010-04-04T22:26:00.001-07:002010-04-04T22:26:41.867-07:00Happy Easter. I will have lots to share as soon as we get back to school and our normal routine. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-69481809938171144352010-03-25T21:27:00.000-07:002010-03-25T21:56:38.550-07:00A special surpriseI am finally able to sit down and type more than a few sentences. I am not sure where the time has gone, but it seems to have been more than a week or two since I last wrote. Two weeks ago, I had wanted to write about the arrival of Nana and Papa, but I was unable to share that news since my mother is a frequent reader of this blog. This would have tipped her off to the fact that it would be a possibility for me to join her and my sister in Vegas. This was a surprise we did not want ruined. Here is how it was all planned out: My mother recently celebrated her 60th birthday (sorry, mom had to share the special occasion). She also made the jump to retirement. Since this was all happening just after Christmas, we decided to combine the three gift giving holidays into one big one. My sister came up with the idea to fly our mom to Vegas for a long weekend. This event was shared with anyone who was willing and able to join us there. The big secret... she had no idea I was part of it. She knew I was helping pay for it, but that was where it ended. Why would this be a big deal if I was there? Well, for starters it would be the first time, I would be away from the boys. Not the easiest thing I ever did either. Secondly, Brian and I are usually not quick to throw a couple hundred dollars out there without a lot of thought given to it. Thirdly, Brian's job does not exactly allow me to just go out of town, since his schedule can change at the drop of a hat. By planning three months in advance, we were hoping to have covered all of our bases, the hard part was trying to keep my mother from finding out.

We bought my ticket, arranged for my in-laws to come for the weekend (well, Nana would be here longer, but that was just bonus time), and even coordinated with my sister so that the flights would be arriving in Vegas within an hour of each other. After everything planned and ready to roll, I had to prepare to say good bye to my two little ones for the first time (I had tried to go on a trip once before, but ended back home before going to sleep). They seemed to be doing better than I was, I guess it helped having Nana and Papa and their crazy Saturday Morning Activities to keep them busy and distracted. There were very little tears, which surprised me that I was not crying.

I arrived to Vegas just a half hour before my sister and mom arrived. It was close, because their flight was almost an hour early. My sister was able to get off the plane before my mom and friends. We made eye contact and then I watched as my mother exited the plane. She looked right in my direction and never saw me. I proceeded to follow behind them. Our friend, Cindy saw me and pulled my mom into and hug so that she was forced to look back in my direction. After she backed away she finally looked right me and completely started to turn away and then turned back and before anyone else knew it she was screaming. I am sure we got the strangest looks from passers-by, but mom did not care. She actually had tears in her eyes. I don't think in all my years, I have ever seen such a look of surprise on my mom's face. For the next hour or so, she kept pinching me to make sure I was really there. I guess we were all able to keep it a secret. It was the best surprise we could ever have given to my mom.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-18807670566215964502010-03-17T21:50:00.001-07:002010-03-17T21:50:02.921-07:00Hope everyone had an enjoyable St. Patrick's Day. First time without the boys. Love and miss them. Happy birthday mom!The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-20489149708663254272010-03-10T20:35:00.000-08:002010-03-10T20:38:29.639-08:00Nothing ExcitingNothing really exciting has happened here today. Brandon has had an upset tummy all day and it doesn't seem to be any better as he heads to bed. We will see how he feels in the morning. Not sure if I will be taking care of a sick little boy or helping Logan in his class. We watched the Absent Minded Professor this evening. The boys thought it was very funny. It is great to see them enjoy some of the older classics. It seems as though Brian is enjoying watching the movies that were his favorites as a child. Up next? Bedknobs and Broomsticks, one of my favorites. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-54222272618723003332010-03-09T21:30:00.001-08:002010-03-09T21:30:36.786-08:00Our internet and cable have been out all night. (Is that what those who do martial arts are called?) The boys have taken their belt test in Aikido this evening and have earned their yellow belts.

The boys were a little nervous about taking their tests this afternoon. Actually I was a little nervous for them. I am not sure they knew the techniques as well as they should have. When we were taking Tae Kwon Do, they knew everything about the test inside and out. This time, not so much. But they certainly knew enough to make us proud. Be sure to ask them to show you their forward and backward rolls the next time you see them. They are definitely becoming more agile.

Here is a picture of the boys with their friend Ben. Ben is the whole reason we got started with Aikido in the first place. After Tae Kwon Do stopped, the boys really missed doing martial arts. I was missing the confidence that all martial arts seems to instill in one's self, especially Logan.

Once again, Brian and I are very happy to display the boys accomplishments and to show how proud we are of them. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-37495834329464858442010-03-05T23:17:00.001-08:002010-03-08T20:48:13.055-08:00Both of the boys loved the play Annie. It was a great performance. We are even going to try to find the movie so they can watch that too.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-54046378190255584002010-03-04T22:45:00.000-08:002010-03-04T22:48:16.960-08:00Missed again...Not sure what I was doing last night that prevented me from writing a quick note, but oops! Nothing really exciting here, the boys and I are going to be attending the play Annie tomorrow evening. Logan was so happy after his field trip and he said he really liked it, so we thought it would be nice to take Brandon and of course, I wanted to go see it too. I am not sure I will be able to tell you about it Friday evening, but I will let you all know sometime this weekend. Probably not Saturday either, that day is totally crazy. Crazier than normal. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-27221200072702176562010-03-02T21:29:00.000-08:002010-03-08T20:48:29.327-08:00Happy Birthday Dr. Suess & 100th Day of School
Can you believe it? Today Brandon celebrated his 100th day of school. (Logan has been in school 102 days). They had a big day of making fruit loop necklaces, 100 Day Smarter Hats, and they brought in 100 things of their favorite item. Brandon chose a 100 marbles. He loves little BB beads, but since 100 of them seemed like such a little amount, he decided on marbles. Can't wait for those to be returned, because I am sure they will be completely over the house.

It was also Dr. Seuss's birthday today. Everyone was very excited, the Cat in the Hat greeted all the students by waving to them from the roof of the school.

Once the Cat in the Hat finally made his way down from the roof, he paid a visit to Brandon's Class and shared Fox in Sox with all them. They thoroughly enjoyed the treat. The kids are very lucky to have a great Principal this year.
I don't have any pictures of Logan from today, but he started the day with a Field Trip to see the play "Annie". He was very excited for this day. Since they had the field trip they could not wear their pajamas like the rest of the school, but they were allowed to bring their favorite stuffed animal and their favorite Dr. Seuss book. Of course, Andy was the one to accompany him to school and he choose One Fish Two Fish. So glad he is able to read those tongue twisters on his own now.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-56468981257290572432010-03-01T23:17:00.001-08:002010-03-08T20:49:00.390-08:00Totally forgot to write last night. But some exciting news today: Logan has his first loose tooth. He can't stop wiggling it. He hopes it comes out tomorrow. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-4536181376738652652010-02-27T21:47:00.001-08:002010-02-27T21:52:06.099-08:00Great EveningWe had a very fun evening at our friend's house. Angie and Jason provided the location and along with two and half other couples (Jess was flying solo) we had a nice dinner of lasagna and a great evening of cards. Hard to find a group of people who know how to play Euchre when you are this far West. But we have found a few and now we are hoping to play monthly. The kids even had a great time. There were a total of EIGHT kids in one house. Surprisingly enough, there were no major incidents. Actually there was hardly any fighting amongst all of them. The only time parents had to intervene was when there seemed to be a few sitting on one of the other boy's head. Not sure who thought it was a good idea, just hope it was not our little Brandon. I am pretty sure it was not, since the other boy was one of his good friends from school.

The evening started at 4:00 and the kids all lasted until 9:00. We probably could have stayed longer, but Brian is currently packing for a very early departure in the morning. Oops! Hope he can sleep on the plane. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-81632984989955638702010-02-26T21:16:00.000-08:002010-02-26T21:23:16.896-08:00early morningsAfter what seemed like a long week, we started Friday off at 3:00 by the beginning of a series of phone calls. It would not be too bad if Brian could reach over and answer the phone quickly. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Brian's work phone only gets reception in a few spots in the house, one being in the kitchen by the back door. Therefore, his phone is on the loudest setting and I usually have to wake him quickly so he can get it fast enough. If he doesn't, there is usually another call five minutes later and/or the loud alert of a voicemail. This morning, however, just when we were about to fall asleep again, the phone rings at 3:16. Just lovely. I think we made it til about 4:30-5:00ish before it rang again, but after being up since 4:00 the previous day, it did not matter, my sleep was not satisfying. I, of course, fell back asleep til Brian's alarm went off at 6:30 and then his phone ringing just as he was heading to the shower. I am sure at some point Logan heard the ringing and decided it was alright for him to come down. Thankfully, he laid peacefully til about 7:25. He gets excited when Brian resets the alarm for him to hear the 'music'. However, I was so not in the mood to hear it at 7:30. At this point, Logan was more than happy to hop out of bed. Having said all of this. It is 9:22pm and I am heading to bed because Brian's phone has not stopped ringing since 7:00 this evening and I am pretty sure it will be ringing well into the night. Ugh...The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-60739941246598859452010-02-25T21:09:00.001-08:002010-02-25T21:09:15.849-08:00Early morning swim means exhaustion by the time boys are in bed. Wow, what a workout. A third friend of ours is an instructor so we headed out to try her class. It was great. I definitely think it will be a good cross-training workout.

Tomorrow I am headed back to the swimming pool and still need to find time to do my 30 minute run. That is amid all the things I have to do throughout the day. Still trying to get everything organized in my scrap booking folders, hopefully that will be soon. No reason for missing except I headed to bed early after waking up for a morning swim yesterday. More later. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-10793051399412966472010-02-21T21:06:00.001-08:002010-02-21T21:06:15.543-08:00Another busy weekend has ended. Boys had Sunday School, a birthday party and Boy Scouts today. I somehow managed to squeeze 6 miles in there, but in two shifts. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-20176117144347463642010-02-20T21:04:00.001-08:002010-02-20T21:04:19.633-08:00Have lots of pictures to post, will have to wait til tomorrow. The boys are well on their way to riding a two-wheeler. Just a few things to work on.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-57674486163489665772010-02-19T13:31:00.000-08:002010-02-19T13:41:13.742-08:00New CreationI have been playing with Adobe Photoshop again and this time I decided to check out how easy it would be to make a card. Well, I absolutely love it. It was so much fun to use the paper and with the books from Close to my Heart the designs are so easy to follow. In a short amount of time this is what I was able to create.

I now just need to get all my stuff sorted out in my crazy craft room and I might be able to recreate these kinds of cards with the actual stuff from Close to my Heart.

The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-89886406567219345922010-02-18T19:09:00.000-08:002010-02-18T19:11:29.723-08:00Continuing On...I don't really have to much more to add, just wanted to make up for the missed entry. Both boys are sitting in a mess of legos in the middle of the floor waiting for me to finish so we can do some reading before starting the Wii. Hope everyone has a nice evening. Ours seems pretty short when we don't get home from swimming til almost 7:00.The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-82104822766758716532010-02-18T19:05:00.000-08:002010-02-18T19:09:22.925-08:00Oops, missed a day...I do have a really good excuse. Actually it is probably not, but here it is anyways. I was very congested and sneezing up a storm, that I decided to take a shower as soon as I got the boys to bed. After the shower, I felt a bit better, but knew it would not last. Therefore, I headed to bed. I really was on my way to sleep, but the Olympics got my attention. Not for too long, because I conked out soon after I turned them on. Was smart though, I pressed the record button beforehand. I got a chance to watch Shaun White do his Halfpipe Victory lap and Lindsay Vonn raise her gold to the National Anthem. Just love the Olympics. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-13978462788753098452010-02-16T21:18:00.000-08:002010-02-16T21:25:18.081-08:00Another Day OffThe boys did not have school today for a Teacher Workday. They like to tack those on to the end of three day weekends. Parents just love that. It was a pretty quiet day, the boys were happy to remain in their pjs until lunch. We sorted and built legos and then headed to the Commissary for a long overdue grocery trip. The boys were very good and of course were rewarded by chocolate milk and reese's peanut butter cup.

We bought new goggles for swim lessons and they were much happier in the water although they are still getting used to the actual goggles. They also got new suits yesterday, I have pictures of the boys swimming, forgot to take one before they got wet. I will try to remember Thursday before they dive in. Their swimming is definitely improving. They can't wait to show off their skills. Hopefully we will have a nice warm place to live this summer so they can swim all the time. The Guise Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15163155418661296153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1167636437723657972.post-17387050741717201682010-02-15T22:08:00.001-08:002010-02-16T21:26:00.187-08:00Had a crazy evening at chess.
